Charterhouse
Set within 250 acres, and built in the 19thcentury, Charterhouse is located just outside the town of Godalming, Surrey. Everywhere you look you are surrounded by manicured lawns, colourful gardens, and a variety of architectural designs reflecting upon its history, which is flowing with elegance and character. When tying the knot here, guests will be wowed by the sweeping tree-lined drives, impressive architecture and beautiful grounds all year round. There are three unique locations for your ceremony. South African Cloister provides a setting for up to 150 people; a truly romantic space with Victorian gothic features, carved columns and archways, making for an enchanting setting for saying ‘I do’. Resembling the Palace of Westminster, the entrance to South African Cloister has featured in many blockbuster films.
The largest venue, Charterhouse Hall is impressive, capturing the romance of old fashioned grandeur with period features and captivating ambiance. This impressive wood-panelled room is hung with oil portraits beneath a vaulted ceiling, bringing a warm and traditional feel. It seats 350 for the nuptials, and up to 150 loved ones for a wedding breakfast.
Finally, couples wanting a more intimate gathering can say their vows in the Saunders Room, ideal for seating up to 42 guests. Inside it’s an elegant, stately home drawing room, decorated with beautiful brass chandeliers and features a high-beamed ceiling. In addition to the ceremony locations, Scholars Court is a beautiful cloistered courtyard. This area is ideal for holding an intimate drinks reception, surrounded by classic Victorian buildings whilst providing a stunning backdrop.
Couples who choose to host their big-day here will certainly have a wedding venue with a difference.
