December/January 2020/2021

The December/January issue has always been my favourite, and I look forward to writing it every year. It’s packed full of inspiration, adorable products, wintry weddings and the latest fashion trends. To celebrate the end of 2020, we’ve gone all out with a flowers feature that will help you find the perfect blooms, a guide to intimate weddings and wintry make-up tips. If you’re dreaming of tying the knot in a winter wonderland, then we’ve got you covered on page 27 or if you’re looking for something in Guildford or Woking head over to page 19.

Don’t forget if you’re planning your big day or have recently got married to submit your wedding. You can get in touch with me at Melissab@kdmediapublishing.com or enter online – www.yoursurrey.wedding/get-involved-real-wedding

The Talbot

The Talbot is a landmark building in the picturesque village of Ripley. The exterior is made up of ivy-clad walls, distinctive period features and an impressive archway that leads to the courtyard. The Talbot has period features from its 500-year-old history, as well as the benefits of an extensive refurbishment. There are 43 modern bedrooms alongside a restaurant that overlooks the terrace and a cosy bar with traditional log fires. The surrounding area of Ripley is charming and is host to many landmark events such as Ripley Bonfire and the farmers market. Ripley is conveniently located between Heathrow and Gatwick and is just 30 minutes from Central London. There are free parking facilities on-site, and a restaurant, with an ornate copper roof and stylish bookcases with homely artefacts that provide a 21st-century country house feel.

The Wisley Suite is a versatile self-contained space with high ceilings, chandeliers and room for 100 guests for the ceremony and 80 for a sit-down meal.

Alternatively, The Surrey Barns can be used. Boasting original beams and heaps of character, this 15th-century space has an intimate and romantic feel with room for 70 loved ones for the vows.

The Surrey Barns and Wisley Suite can be used separately or in conjunction. The barn has a new wooden bar with poser tables and a separate dining area that can accommodate 30 nearest and dearest.

For evening receptions, couples can party the night away in the Wisley and use the private bar and quite seating area in the Surrey Barns. Both spaces can accommodate up to 150 friends and family.

For more intimate nuptials, Emma’s Room can hold 10 people and The Garden Room or Victory Suite can both accommodate 30 attendees.

Lush has launched Confetti perfume!

Lush has launched Confetti perfume!

An exclusive fragrance for spring which was first seen as part of the Lush's Florence collection, this infatuating floral fragrance was invented by Lush perfumer, Emma Dick and will be the fragrance she wears at her wedding this year.Emma began her Lush journey 21 years ago and is one of a close-knit family of perfumers for Lush. Emma's initial workings for this perfume were based on rose, violet, coffee and pear as a combination. When Lush co-founder Rowena smelt the perfume, she thought it smelt of sugared almonds (a pastel-coloured candy almond usually found as a gift on the table at British Weddings). In Italy they have the same tradition for celebratory events and the sugar almonds are known as Confetti - which was a perfect fit. This romantic scent is also featured in Lush's Renaissance Spa treatment and Renaissance Discovery Kit.

Local make-up artist Gemma Warburton is teaching brides-to-be how to do their make-up

During these bizarre times, I've been working with couples as normal as possible, obviously with additional PPE and necessary precautions. I wanted to create a backup plan just in case I was unable to do my job as usual, so at the trial rather than doing the hair and make-up, I've been teaching couples to do it themselves. I offer a consultation as usual before demonstrating the look on myself with the client following along. Doing it this way means the bride can copy what I'm doing and if they require products they have access to my kit. I'm available between the trial and wedding, as they practice just in case they need any help via text, FaceTime, calls or emails.
