Q – I want my accessories to reflect our autumn wedding. Do you have any suggestions?
"Red is a beautiful colour and provided a seasonal shade is selected, it can make your theme look phenomenal. For an autumn wedding, I would choose a colder shade instead of bright versions. Deep red bridesmaids’ dresses and flowers are the most obvious choice and look beautiful against green leafy backgrounds as the sun goes down.
"If you’re not wearing a coloured wedding dress, you could opt for a sash around your waist, or have one encrusted with red gemstones or appliqué flowers. If you’ve chosen a white gown, look for ivory options as these go well with deep shades of red.
"A headpiece or floral headband made with red flowers is a great option, as there are lots of blooms available in late autumn. Tiaras and metal-finished hair accessories with red gemstones are also season-appropriate. Hairpieces and jewellery made from a cluster of red gemstones will make you shine as you walk down the aisle. Ruby jewellery for the mother-of-the-bride, red hats, dashing red bow ties are all excellent ways of incorporating your colour scheme.
"As always there are things to watch out for. Choose heavier fabrics such as velvet and felt for hats and headbands. Avoid combining too many colours as it may look overdone and lose the effect you’re trying to achieve. Be consistent and use the same fabric and colour throughout your accessories and flowers. It’s also a good idea to ask your guests to avoid wearing red."
