Would you wear an engagement ring?

New research from 77 Diamonds, reveals that, amidst a growing shift in relationship traditions, almost 40% of UK men would consider wearing a male engagement ring.

That's according to a new survey of 1,000 men commissioned by 77 Diamonds which explores current attitudes toward male engagement jewellery, an idea still considered unconventional by many. And while 39% of men are open to the concept, the majority still express hesitation. The most common reason for hesitation given by those men is that it 'feels unnecessary' (37%), while 30% say they don't want to wear jewellery every day.

Interestingly, among those open to wearing a ring, nearly 40% (37%) said they would expect their partner to buy the ring for them after the proposal. However, most don't see it as needing to match traditional engagement ring spending; 57% believe it shouldn't be as expensive as their partner's, and just 2% think it should cost more.

When it comes to design, it appears men appreciate simplicity, with 55% of men preferring a plain band similar to a wedding ring. However, there is growing interest in personalisation, with 32% expressing a preference for subtle design elements such as brushed metal, engraving, or other details.

Additionally, 62% of men said they would like their engagement ring to match or complement their future wedding band, suggesting a thoughtful, coordinated approach to ring design.

Despite this growing openness, the tradition has yet to be fully embraced by the wider public. Only 28% of men surveyed believe that male engagement rings will become more common in the future.
