April/May 2022

April/May 2022

For me, spring is a wonderful time of year. I love seeing nature come alive again, and being able to go outside without it being dark is something I’ve truly missed. Although I adore Christmas (who doesn’t?) I’m not a fan of the winter months and am so glad we can finally say hello to spring! With a new season comes lots of wonderful real weddings, and I can’t wait to hear from those of you who are set to tie the knot in the next few months.

As many of you know, my wedding is in July 2022, so we’re finally in the home stretch and counting down the days. We opted for a summer wedding, partly due to my dislike for the cold weather, but also because when we got engaged in 2020 we were in the middle of one of the many lockdowns and were unsure if we’d be able to get married anytime soon. We booked our venue for 18 months later, and here we are about to walk down the aisle and say ‘I do’. For those of you who are newly engaged, believe me when I tell you that your day will arrive in the blink of an eye! My number one piece of advice is to take your time and enjoy the planning process.

In this issue, we reveal some of the best musicians, answer your hot topic questions and showcase the latest news from around Surrey.

Remember, if you’ve recently celebrated your day or have been involved with a styled shoot, you can submit it here or via email.

Wotton House

Wotton House dates back to the 16th-century when it was sold by Henry Owen to the Evelyn family. John Evelyn, one of three sons of Richard Evelyn, was inspired by what he had discovered on his travels and constructed an Italian garden and temple, designed by his cousin, Captain George Evelyn, which was soon joined by a parterre garden complete with an Italian fountain. Since then, the estate has been passed through the Evelyn family, who have all been passionate about preserving John’s legacy, whilst adding their own touches to the estate.

Guests are welcome to explore the 13 acres of gardens, which have been deemed worthy of protection and individually Grade II listed. Flowing peacefully through the estate is The River Tillingbourne, which had its own mill at one time. It has since become awash with aquatic plants and wildlife, including a family of ducks who come and go as they please.

Inside the hotel are several luxurious bedrooms and junior suites, a restaurant, leisure facilities and a range of wedding spaces.

The Grade II listed Italian gardens is fully licensed for civil ceremonies of up to 140 guests. Celebrate the joys of nature by opting for an outdoor wedding ceremony underneath one of the two majestic temples. With panoramic views of the gardens, it’s a beautiful space to say ‘I do’ and take photographs.

The grand vaulted ceilings, pillars and centuries-old original marble fireplaces set a romantic tone for an indoor ceremony in The Old Library. A whimsical, showstopping setting for weddings, with natural daylight shining through the stone Gothic windows and Ancient Greek phrases written on the walls.
