We spoke to local photographer Helen Jones to find out more about her company.

"There’s more to wedding photography than people think. Unlike a studio, there are always elements you can’t control, like the light or the weather – not to mention the personalities! Fortunately, I have some very high-quality equipment which means I can get the most out of all my shots, without imposing too much on my clients’ big day. For me, a silent shutter and a professional lens are essentials for any wedding photographer – particularly if you’re taking pictures during the ceremony.

"The most important thing to remember is that you need to feel a connection with your photographer. They're going to be around for the whole day, so the last thing you want is to feel uncomfortable around them and it's vital that they get on well with your guests. All wedding photographers claim to be friendly and passionate about what they do. Make sure that this is the case by taking the time to get to know them a bit.

"Before booking look thoroughly through their portfolio and ask to see images from their most recent weddings. This will give you an insight into their style so you can decide if they're right for you. A busy photographer may not have updated their website and styles develop and change. Don't be afraid to ask to see images from recent weddings. It's an important decision for you so take the time to really see what you will get from the photographer you commission.

"Make sure you communicate with your photographer and don't be afraid to tell them your likes and dislikes, so you can make the most of the experience. Don't be shy. It doesn't matter whether you're having a big celebrity wedding or a small elopement, your opinion matters equally!

"It's important that your chosen supplier is passionate about what they do and most importantly has the experience to deliver something truly special on such an important day. Your photographer should make you feel like you are the only couple in their world!"
