Cake trends are always changing, so we caught up with cake specialist Shenaz Lake-Thomas to find out what's on trend
"Over the last few years, naked and semi-naked cakes have become popular. This design is ideal for couples who don't like soft icing and want to adorn the cake with fresh flowers, herbs and fruit. The individual tiers can be flavoured differently to give your guests a variety of flavours, and it can also be served as dessert.
"Buttercream cakes are also on-trend. Keep in mind that if you're having a summer wedding, the cake will need to be kept in a very cool place to avoid it melting. Decorated your design with fresh flowers, fruit, sugar decorations and quirky toppers. Buttercream cakes look simple, but I like to think of it as a blank canvas that you can decorate however you choose.
"Iced (sugar paste) cakes are a great choice, especially in marbled patterns. Incorporate metallic elements which can be used to contrast against your venue décor. Tall and semi-tall tiers adorned with flowers will create height and add the wow factor."
