Beaverbrook has prepared a programme of festivities including a new ice skating rink

Ice skating

This Christmas, much-loved Beaverbrook has prepared a charmed programme of festivities including a new ice skating rink in the winter wonderland grounds surrounded by the Surrey Hills. The dining experiences and decorations on estate will be inspired by age-old stories and the magic of Christmas nostalgia; the warmth of past memories and moments that take us back. After a year of uncertainty, Beaverbrook will press pause on the noise of the outside world to make Christmas and New Year a cosy celebration full of thoughtful details and magical surprises.

From 4th December – 31st January, guests will be able to glide on the ice while listening to yuletide melodies and indulging in delicious mulled cider, hot chocolate and sugary waffles from the rink-side cabin. Beaverbrook on Ice will be available to both hotel and local guests visiting the estate for an overnight stay, spa day or dining experiences at one of the hotel’s much-loved restaurants.

Whimsical and cosy with quintessentially British charisma, The Garden House Restaurant is the perfect setting for a festive feast. There will be a festive inspired dishes throughout December and this year’s Christmas Day menu brims with winter warming favourites full of ingredients sourced from the neighbouring organic garden such as traditional roast turkey seasoned with sage and onion stuffing, thyme roasted potatoes and honey glazed parsnips, and pistachio and cranberry truffles. Lashings of mulled cider will be served from the old-fashioned drinks hole, whilst Christmas tunes play and guests get stuck into old-edition board games. Father Christmas will make a star appearance to visit children dining in the restaurant on Christmas Day.

For those seeking an alternative to traditional fare, the Christmas Celebration Kaiseki Hako menu at the Japanese Grill will serve its signature gourmet specialities such as Unagi Kabayaki with fresh Kinome and Koshihikari rice, and Kagoshima Wagyu. At Gatsbyesque Sir Frank’s Bar, a new winter bar menu will brim with rich and warming cocktails such as the Spitfire Flip, to enjoy on the bar’s distinctive topaz-blue velvet stools or the snug winter terrace complete with quilted rugs, hot water bottles and heaters.

Throughout the festive season, playful decorations will bring Christmas to life. A giant storybook will engulf the pillars at the entrance of the hotel and carefully inked onto the oversized pages will be a poem by renowned past guest, Rudyard Kipling, who in 1911 wrote ‘Christmas at Cherkley Court’ (the former name of the estate) on the pages of Lord Beaverbrook’s guestbook. For young guests staying in the run up to Christmas, thoughtful touches will be peppered throughout the property such as advent calendar treats and special surprises to leave out for Father Christmas and his reindeer on Christmas Eve from the hotel’s very own Rudolph Treat Station.

To ring in 2021, there will be impressive performances from ice dancers on the ice skating rink, followed by bubbles and delectable dining at The Japanese Grill or Garden House, and a pampering new year’s day programme at The Coach House Spa.
