The Black Horse in Kingston Upon Thames redefined as a foodie bolthole

The Black Horse in Kingston Upon Thames redefined as a foodie bolthole: Image 1 For sensational pub food, head for The Black Horse in Kingston Upon Thames. Whether dining by the open fire or in the beautiful beer garden come spring, The Black Horse is a stylish and contemporary pub worth visiting.

Open seven days a week, from lunch to last orders on weekdays, for Saturday brunch and Sunday roasts, the pub offers a refined approach to comforting British favourites, courtesy of Head Chef, Giuseppe Priolo.

Whether it's a pre-wedding get-together with loved ones, a much needed break from the wedding planning with your beau, or a place to gather with your best girls and guys for a sophisticated hen and stag do, then the The Black Horse provides a location for any event.

Starters include baked camembert, parmesan and pink pepper biscuits with fig chutney; and hot salmon on toast, lemon chive crème fraîche and pickled cucumber. Substantial mains come in the form of wild boar and apple sausages with mash potato and gravy; seafood risotto with prawns, mussels, squid and langoustines; or squash, spinach and mushroom pie with browned red onion and chestnut purée. Don't forget to leave space for dessert with the delectable line up on offer, including sticky toffee pudding with salted caramel ice cream; mango and coconut panna cotta with short bread biscuits; and banoffee pie.

For a naughty nibble delicious bar bites include homemade scotch duck eggs; truffle deep fried mac & cheese; and crispy buffalo wings with a blue cheese dip. Grab a few friends and enjoy five dishes for just £20.

Start the weekend right with The Black Horse's enticing Saturday brunch menu. Stand out dishes include smoked bacon hash with fried duck egg and crumpets with parmesan custard and courgette ribbon salad, alongside traditional crowd pleasers like smashed avocado with poached egg and oven roasted tomatoes. Add bottomless prosecco or Bloody Marys for £15 for two hours.

As one would expect from a great pub, roasts take centre stage come Sunday. Choose from joints of lemon and thyme chicken with bread sauce; rump of British beef with horseradish cream; leg of lamb with mint sauce or vegetarian wellington, all complemented by seasonal vegetables, roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and lashings of gravy.

An extensive drinks list includes rotating craft ales, such as Camden Hells, Peckham Pale and 1936, premium bottled beers and a wide range of wines, including sparkling and pudding, from a list created by master of wine, John Clevely. The Black Horse takes cocktails seriously with signatures like a Bordeaux Negroni, Persian Lime Margarita and Salted Caramel Old Fashioned sitting alongside head bartender Gerard Porres' craft concoctions – the Rosemary Gimlet and Apple & Cinnamon Whisky sour as well as a myriad classic creations. Ask Gerard for his changing weekly specials featuring the quirky and seasonal.

For private events and parties, The Games Room seats up to 20 seated, 40 standing, and comes with a foosball table for added fun. A choice of party menus feature nibbles, sharing boards, fork buffets and three course meals. The all-weather garden, complete with ping pong table, boules pitch and BBQ, can be booked for parties of 40 – 100. A canopy covering the garden, to protect from the elements, and a firepit ensures winter parties can also be accommodated.

If you have a passion for food and are looking for more sophisticated pub dining, come saddle up and experience The Black Horse.
